This entire look was made from thrifted denim. Different shades and textures were brought together using rough patchwork inspired by Japanese boro techniques. Instead of buying new fabric, we worked with what already existed, letting the frayed edges, faded colors, and imperfections become part of the design.

The black and gray color scheme beautifully balances the faded areas, transforming the wear of the jeans into art. A pair of jeans and leftover wax scraps from previous sewing projects got a second life as this colourful wallet. I combined denim with small pieces of wax in a patchwork design, adding a zippered compartment and a snap closure. Even the smallest fabric scraps can become something useful and unique! ♻️❤️
From jeans to Boro-style upcycled jean jacket. This loose-fitting, unlined jacket is inspired by the Japanese Hanten style—drop shoulder, wide sleeve, and banded front. Using various shades of denim from old jeans is a nod to Japanese Boro garments, carefully repaired and layered for many years. My hope is this jacket lives a long and useful life, repaired as needed. Accents are Japanese indigo dyed fabric on the band and a salvaged Levi’s label. #thriftflip
This set was created from a thrifted sweater and fabric I had stashed away for years. I used the fabric to add puffed sleeves and matching shorts, then finished the front bodice with leftover trims. Even the original sweater sleeves were saved for another project.
