Created from the wrappers of Bumboo toilet roll and cardboard... Displayed in our charity shop window in Swansea to demonstrate recycling, sustainability, imagination and highlight our charity Greyhound Rescue Wales, every month we use items that would go to waste to make outfits that wow! Customers love them nearly as much as I enjoy making them!
Dry Earth Sleeveless Top This piece was made from an upholstery pillowcase and also contains a belt buckle from a thrifted belt. I constructed a mock up, cut out my pieces and began with the top portion of the garment. The belt and grommets followed. I lined this piece with a soft, velvety material cut from an old blanket. unlikelyupcycle.my.canva.site
My loose-fitting, unlined jacket inspired by the Japanese Hanten style—drop shoulder, wide sleeve, and banded front. Using various shades of denim from old jeans is a nod to Japanese Boro garments, carefully repaired and layered for many years. My hope is this jacket lives a long and useful life, being repaired as needed. Accents are Japanese indigo dyed fabric on the band and a salvaged Levi’s label.
This set was created from a thrifted sweater and fabric I had stashed away for years. I used the fabric to add puffed sleeves and matching shorts, then finished the front bodice with leftover trims. Even the original sweater sleeves were saved for another project.
