The Story

For this look, I repurposed old trousers, shorts, and a vintage scarf, transforming them into a corset, a skirt, and a deconstructed pair of trousers. Rather than simply reusing denim in its original form, I wanted to challenge its conventional purpose and explore how discarded garments could be reinterpreted into something entirely new. The concept behind the look was inspired by the idea of creating my own interpretation of a magical girl, reminiscent of Sailor Moon, but with a stronger, more assertive, and contemporary identity. I wanted to contrast the femininity and fantasy associated with the magical-girl archetype with a sense of strength, rebellion, and transformation. Denim upcycling has become increasingly common within fashion, so I wanted to push the idea further. Instead of treating the original garments as materials to simply reconstruct, I deconstructed and reversed unexpected parts of them, allowing elements that once had a specific function to be different.
