This shoulder bag was upcycled from an old denim pair of jeans, and an old curtain. The fabrics were in great condition and the white lace is a great contrast for the dark denim. The silhouette was inspired by the viral slouche bag that has been on social media. The shape is casual but the fabric evaluates it, the piece can be dressed up or down.
I thrifted an old table cloth from the Bronx, NY with the intention of creating a handbag collection. The print, to me, reminded me of the times my family gathered together at the kitchen table around a big feast of grapes, cheese, and wine during the fall season. The table cloth protecting the table from our messy laughter and enjoyment. The fringe was another piece of the tablecloth that I wanted to keep within the design. To play on the delicate and elegant trend of micro purses, I decided to go with a tiny purse. I had to keep the fabrication in mind with the structure, so I wanted something that didn’t require embedding a grommet, snap or zipper. I felt that the silhouette of the bag represented the print of the fabric well l, keeping the details sharp. I made a mock up and absolutely loved it. The shape fit perfectly around the wrist and was such a statement piece. Perfect to pair with a maroon or beige fall sweater.
I’m originally from CT. I now live and work in NYC. I started upcycling about 2 years ago after graduating college.
