Ten Thousand Transactions A dress made entirely out of receipts featuring 10,000 folded origami cranes! This project took over 2 years to complete and features several different paper manipulation techniques. Receipts are unable to be recycled so they have to go into the landfill, and it is easy to find yourself with a bunch of them in a short period of time. I used thousands of them to fold into paper cranes while saving the scraps for the bodice. I shredded and glued most of them to create the feathers and kept some strips to paper mache the bodice. Each feather on the front was embroidered with hand rolled beads made from the tiny scraps. The origami cranes were hand sewn to a large sheet of paper I made out of rolls of unused receipt paper. To create the gradient effect on the skirt I used heat and spray adhesive that reacts with the thermal elements on the paper.
